A toxic leak was detected in the USA section of the ISS and forced the American astronauts to seal off their module and move to the Russian area. Everyone is safe but emergency repairs may be required in the form of a spacewalk.
Initial reports showed a discharge of ammonia which caused the emergency. NASA has confirmed this wasn’t the case though.
“Crew is safe. No ammonia leak confirmed. Crew responded to coolant loop pressure increases,” the agency tweeted, adding that “Crew is following safety procedures while assessments continue.”
The air pressure and pollutants are all within normal levels, except the sealed off module of course.
At about 3PM EST NASA confirmed that it was a false alarm and that everything was okay.
